The game's theme is about memories and letting go of suffering. Combat was too slow so I enabled the fast combat, but it was still too slow.įrom the way I see it though, it's a conceptual game with a roguelike mechanic.

It also was nice since the skills are balanced between mob utility vs boss utility. I like that each of my Daughter feels alive because of the trait system. I didn't skip and era on each playthrough and carefully handpicked my daughters. I played for 2 days and finished the game at Recollection 6. The basis seems good, and maybe if the developers stick with the game trying to improve it and switch the mechanics up rather than moving onto other projects, it could be great with an expansion or maybe Othercide 2, but as it stands now the good is just outweighed a bit too much by the bad in my opinion. I'm glad the developers tried something different, and I still really enjoy the aesthetic / music of the game, but overall if I were to review this game I'd probably hit the 'not recommended' button.

Overall, I feel like these unfulfilling mechanics, plus normal mission combat being rather repetitive and tedious, have sort of dragged the game down for me, and I just kind of want to finish it out of principle rather than enjoyment at this point. This mechanic also just kind of feels like a way to try and stretch the game length. You can never keep your 'A' team healed, and if you sacrifice them for your 'B' team, I feel like you'll get weaker and it'll take longer, rather than just pushing your 'A' team as far as possible, and restarting when they die to resurrect them. When I first was playing, I thought it was necessary to have an 'A' team and 'B' team, but really this seems pretty unimportant. The sacrifice mechanic I feel like is inherently broken. I feel like you just have to figure out the sort of cheesy strategy that works for each boss, and then you can pretty much rush to them without grinding out vitae / memories or whatever. If anything, I feel like I just have a 'save file' that I have to revert back to when I die, that just happens to be at the start of the era. The resurrect tokens and era skipping and 'start on level X' power-ups definitely make the game not feel like a roguelike. The game seems to want to be a roguelike, and have these 'difficult' choices to sacrifice daughters, but so far the way I've played the game hasn't really incorporated either of those elements. I'm not sure what it is that's not exactly working for me. However, now being at the 4th era, I have to say, I realized it's becoming harder and harder for me to launch the game, and I'm enjoying it less and less. Then, I got fully sucked in for a while and was really enjoying myself. Initially, I found the game slow but intriguing. The game's been out for a little bit now, probably long enough for most people to get decently far in or beat it, so I was thinking we'd post our thoughts.
